This piece started with paper I made from the wild black mustard plant (invasive) that grew in the cracks of the road after the spring rains here in Santa Barbara. The plant fibers are soaked, cooked and beaten to form a pulp, which are then formed into sheets. I painted this simple flower on the paper with paint I made from marigolds. I also used traditional watercolor paint for highlights.
